You can
see now, I have created the frame. This is a perfect base to attach the
block to, and keep them contained. |
 |
I'm attaching
all the blocks with a waterproof PVA glue, be fairly generous, as the
end grain on the bottom will soak alot up.
I haven't shown
in the image, but I also applied glue to the insides of the frame itself.
TIP, use an off
cut of wood to spread the glue, it saves alot of mess! |
 |
I'm now just working
from one corner, putting each block firmly in.
Accurate measuring
will pay off, we will soon see if the 1 last block fits, if if doesn't,
you will need to reduce it in size, either with a sander, plane or if
you really went wrong a saw! |
 |
This REALLY felt
good!
Perfect fit ! Small
tap with a mallet and we were laughing! |
 |
I clamped it to a
rigid board while the glue dried, this held the blocks tightly. |
 |
After sanding
it flush with a belt sander, a few gaps appeared. These can be filled
with some wood glue, and sawdust mixed - makes good filler !
Then a light sand
to get rid of the excess filler, and were ready for some finish. |
 |
I'm using a natural
oil to finish this. Apply it generously and wipe of any excess 10 min's
after application.
NOTE: make sure
the finish you use is suitable for food preparation/food serving items
- This also applies to the glue. |
 |
Here is the final
board in all its glory, i think it looks great! and is ready for many
years use in the kitchen! |
