If you don't
have a biscuit joiner there are many other ways to make this frame. I
forgot the shelf on purpose. I'm not going to show you how to screw it
in. I will use oak plugs to disguise the screws. First of all I'm measuring
for the shelf - 215mm wide. |
|
I've marked how wide the
shelf will be. The door will be inset into the cabinet, so the shelf is
not as deep as the rest of the cabinet - Otherwise the door won't close
- We don't wnat that ! |
|
Oh look the shelf fits
! I'm using my combination square here to make sure it is nice and square
!
Notice how deep the shelf
is ?! |
|
Now for some pilot holes.
These will accept the screws. Oak is mighty hard so you will want these
if the screw is going to go anywhere ! |
|
Here i'm d the counter
bores using a foresner bit. These will accept the wooden plugs...
Notice the tape - this
is going to act as a depth stop so I won't drill too deep. |
|
I've used a clamp to
stop the shelf moving while it's being screwed in place !
|
|
Here we go. I'm using drywall
screws - I love these as the wood never splits, they can be driven quickly
and easily. |
|
Here i'm at the drill press,
I have fitted a plug cutter, and i'm going to cut 4 plugs. I'm using an
offcut of oak. |
|
Here are the 4 plugs. Just
pop them out with a screwdriver. |
|
After a bit of sanding,
they look good - almost a feature !
