Power tools...(God bless them !)

Cordless Drills

Every workshop must have a couple of these. If you get a good quality one (£100+) you won't regret it, get a fast charger and 2 or more batteries - thats always brilliant. There good all round in the workshop, on site and around the home, they can drill and screw. Some are made to tackle heavier jobs like drilling masonary.

Arn't they great ?

Biscuit Jointer

These have really brung a whole new meaning to the word 'joint' Buiscuits can replace many joints and save alot of time and energy in many cases. The tool cuts a half moon slot into the wood. You cut 2 slots and the biscuit expands when glued, it forms a very strong joint.

The router

These are available in many shapes and forms. These are without a doubt the most versitile powertool you can buy. The limit is your imagination (Litrually). With many Cutters, Jigs and acessories routers can do anything from cutting a simple dado to making a raised panel door.

Random Orbit Sander

The sanding disc moves in an orbital and circular direcction. This does not scratch the grain and it enables you to sand flush 2 joining pieces of wood where the grain doesn't match (i.e. In a frame) They can be fitted with Coarse and Fine paper and can sand wood smooth.

Belt Sander

Good for sanding alot of wood down in a very short time. There is an abrasive belt - this goes round at a high rate and sands the wood. If you need to smooth sawn timber and don't have a jointer or planer of any sort, this is the next best option. Tip : Dont hit a finger with this !

Jigsaw

This is without a doubt a very useful tool. If you are starting woodworking get one of these. Thats my advise to you. You will find as you get more tools you will use it less and less. I barley even touch mine now. But there always usefull to have and you cant get round not using one sometimes. The blade goes up and down, you can get fine and coarse blades for rough and finer work. Aswell as cutting straigh this does curves aswell !

Cool huh ?

Circlular Saw or Skil Saw (Buzz saw if you want sound cool)

Used to cut sheet material up. And bigger ones used by carpenters on site to cut rafters. This is a great tool to get if you cant afford a tablesaw.
